| Summary: | The extinct conulariids are polypoid scyphozoans. In the meantime is besides the systematic also more known about the way of living and especially the anatomy of the soft parts, in which the fossils of the Hunsrück Slate, among them my unique find of a cluster of conulariids, are of great importance. There are for the first time also young specimens in the radial cluster and it shows a Conularia cf. tulipina with an open mouthlappet and more specimens with partly closed moutlappets of the lobate lappet type. In the Palaeozoic 14 further radial clusters are known (Supplement 2). The conulariids indicate the preservation of soft parts in the Hunsrück Slate (the retractor muscles in the skeleton identify them with the polypoid scyphozoans of today). A redescription of the conulariids of the Hunsrück Slate would, on the basis of more complete and taphonomic undamaged specimens, be desirable. Enough finds are therefore available (Supplement 1). Tabel 1: Public collections "Conulariids in the Hunsrück Slate" (see https://www.fossilien-journal.de/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Tabelle1-2.pdf) Supplement: List radial clusters of conulariids in literature worldwide (see https://www.fossilien-journal.de/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Tabelle2.pdf) |
