Title Die Trilobiten des Hunsrückschiefers [Trilobites from the Hunsrück Slate]
Year: 2008
Language: German
Source: Fossilien, 25 (3): 158-172
Keywords: Trilobites, Hunsrück Slate, Lower Devonian, Hunsrück and Taunus region and Middle Rhine Valley
Summary: After some remarks on the quantity and state of preservation of the trilobites in the Hunsrück Slate, an overview of the relevant literature and a list of all the species have been given. Especially, the discoveries concerning the appendages and soft parts, and the characters for the identification of the species, are described.
Reaction 1: Mirco Alberti rightly corrects (in FOSSILIEN 25(5) p. 267) the identification of the two illustrated parahomalonotids: Parahomalonotus planus planus = Digonus ornatus and Burmeisterella aculeata = Burmeisterella armata.
Reaction 2: Mirco Alberti (in his paper: [" A homalonotid trilobite with preservation of soft tissues from the Upper Emsian of the Westerwald (Lower Devonian; Rhenish Slate Mountains] in: Mainzer Geowiss. Mitt. 2009, 37:23-32) mentions my first find of a "Parahomalonotus" with recognizable soft tissues from the "Ibero-Slate" of northwestern Spain. Although the described new find of the Westerwald from the Upper Emsian apparantly shows a preservation of its alimentary system, the by Südkamp (2008) observed ventrally pointed bending down of the alimentary system, starting at the frontline of the pygidium, could not be confirmed nor rejected.
