| Summary: | Spiriferid brachiopods are typical of near-shore, sandy sediments from the Devonian. However, the author previously reported the first specimens of Arduspirifer and Euryspirifer from the offshore, muddy sediments of the Hunsrück Slate, in the neighbourhood of the Bundenbach Lagerstätte. In this paper, further spiriferid localities in the Hunsrück Slate are listed and described from the Lütz roofing slate (near Treis-Karden; Upper Emsian; Alatiformia; Sollispirifer mosellanus dahmeri). Because spiriferids are index fossils, the author also discusses the controversy surrounding the age of the Hunsrück Slate. |
