Summary: Beilstein is a touristic highlight at the river Moselle. The medieval village is not only historical, but also since the last scientific work in 1942, slept away. This paper presents the fossiliferous layers in the neighbourhood, dating from the upper Lower Devonian and lower Middle Devonian. These contain a mostly benthonic fauna, living on the continental shelf about 394 millions years ago. The brachiopods are very numerous and inform about the palaeogeography, -ecology and age of the sediments. The quarry between Beilstein and Briedern is not Klerf (upper Lower Emsian), but dates from the younger Laubach Formation. The brittle star Furcaster palaeozoicus and brachiopods Paraspirifer (Mosellospirifer) sandbergeri longimargo, Iridistrophia (Flabellistrophia) musculosa and Sartenaerirhynchus antiquus have been found in younger layers for the first time.
