| Summary: | The article deals with stelleroids losing (part of) an arm and healing the wound or regeneratimg a new arm (tip). Also abnormal arm numbers are summarised among the known rare worldwide fossils. Especially the Hunsrück Slate contains relatively a lot of specimens with abnormal arm numbers and regeneration potential. Some stelleroids show a sharp cut off of arm parts too. The ability to regenerate is an evolutionary trend connected with the rise and efficiency of (new) predators in the course of the history of the earth. |
